6.5 Overall impression

Overall impression

This program has proven to be immensely beneficial for me in various aspects. It has fostered my independence, strength, confidence, and respect for diversity. I have come to understand that achieving success requires stepping outside of our comfort zones. I experienced this firsthand when I was assigned to a province far from the capital. As a Muslim who wears a hijab, I require a prayer space and am particular about my dietary needs, especially in a country where Muslims are in the minority. Initially, I feared that others would not understand my needs and would distance themselves from me due to my beliefs. However, upon arriving at my new location for living and teaching, my perceptions shifted dramatically. The people here have shown themselves to be respectful and welcoming, expressing curiosity about my religion, culture, and country. I feel fortunate and deeply appreciative of this experience.

I gained valuable insights into their cultures and the mutual respect and tolerance they exhibit towards one another, which left a profound impact on me. They consistently look after my needs and are always willing to assist me in any way possible. From the lecturers and teachers to the students and all the staff at the institution, I have experienced a deep sense of respect and consideration. My time living in Alicia, Isabela, was truly enjoyable.

Upon learning that two other students and I had been assigned to PNU Manila, we experienced feelings of fear and anxiety due to the need to adjust to a new urban environment. Nevertheless, I am able to cope with these challenges because the people here are genuinely kind and supportive. Additionally, I take great pride in the fact that I have gained valuable experience at two different schools and campuses, specifically ANHS and ITL, as well as the North Luzon and Manila PNU campuses.

I am profoundly appreciative, as this experience has enhanced my understanding of teaching methods, the skills of educators, and the patience required in the teaching profession.
